The Marcellus Shale natural gas industry is one of the biggest employment opportunities in Pennsylvania’s manufacturing industry in decades. This natural deposit which has an estimated value of $500 billion has the potential of meeting our energy needs for both electricity and perhaps even motor vehicles for the next 40 years. However, along with the new interest in natural gas exploration and the economic viability of deep drilling, Pennsylvania must ensure that wastewater from the hydraulic fracturing or “fracking” process does not contaminate groundwater supplies or our many rivers and streams.

A public discussion will be held at 7 p.m. on June 30, at the Alburtis Community Center as part of the regularly scheduled Alburtis Borough Council. The topic meeting is the United States Postal Service’s (USPS) decision to start charging $50 for post office boxes or require each home to install a curbside mailbox for driving delivery, according to Rep. During House floor action taken April 28, the House voted to require the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PENNDOT) to detail which farm vehicles are exempt from a new federal law requiring their drivers to get commercial driver’s licenses (CDLs).

For the last two weeks, Attorney General Tom Corbett has been under fire from some special interests for his decision to challenge the constitutionality of the new federal health care law. Interestingly, supporters of that law who are the most vocal against Corbett’s challenge are not claiming the lawsuit is frivolous. They simply don’t seem to understand how anyone could question the majority party’s ‘mandate’ to pass the bill.
