Reichley Applauds $24,450 Recycling Grant for Salisbury Township
1/15/2010

Salisbury Township has received a $24,450 grant from the Recycling Performance Grant Program, according to Rep. Doug Reichley (R-Berks/Lehigh), which will support borough recycling efforts.

The grant comes from the Department of Environmental Protection (DEP), and is based on the municipality’s population and the number of tons of post-consumer waste it recycled during the calendar year 2007, which was more than 1,377 tons.

“Salisbury continues to excel in its efforts to collect recycled materials,” said Reichley.  “This grant will help further their efforts to reduce waste.”

The grants are in addition to funds that DEP distributes to municipalities to establish and maintain recycling programs.  This grant program promotes economic growth through job creation and market expansion for recyclable materials.

Pennsylvania is recognized as having the largest, longest-established and most successful statewide recycling program in the nation.  For more recycling or information on other environmental protection programs, visit DEP online at www.dep.state.pa.us.
